Honoring all life, all beings and the pathways they traverse. Freedom has no borders.

There are endlessly inspiring things on this Earth; colors, textures, sounds, movement, waters, trees, non-human beings.
Every time I allow myself to delve into the creative space that these aspects of the world inspire—is where I feel an overwhelming sense of connection. When I listen to the music, tune into the rhythm of dance, observe the beings of the forest, see the beautiful creations that people are putting out into the world…I am reminded of how we still have that.
We must remember all that we love here in this life, all the beings we care deeply for, all the ways this Earth gives to us ~ so we can continue to fight for them.

Ruminating on the magic and potency of seeds, collected, sown, and planted.
Literal (and metaphorical) seeds are the lifeline and the sustenance of our collective nourishment, health, justice, and community. Seeds are portals through which life emerges. They hold all that is and will be ~ the dreams, the archetypes, the stories and visions.
Seed keepers encompass the many generations of beings before us who have kept wisdom and knowledge alive, holding it, tending to it, and passing it on ~ even amidst times of great suffering, subjugation, and injustice.
I think of all who came before me who planted seeds and helped cultivate an awareness of the world that I am forever grateful for. All of the artists, mothers, teachers, activists, thinkers, land stewards, and earth defenders who carried different stories of the world than those that fuel narratives of empire.
To be a seed keeper in these times is a revolutionary act. Remembrance is liberation.

Palestine is representative of all of us. It reveals the vast polarization of the deepest dehumanization, horrific violence, genocidal and eco-cidal tendencies of our collectivity as well as the fierce resistance, care, love, compassion, and willingness to create a different world. Every effort to combat this hellscape is an act towards liberation.

:: Emerging from the Spring Equinox, this piece is an honoring of the Sunbird ~ of Palestinian resistance ~ olive seeds, prickly pear cacti, and poppies. How the land speaks through these beings and reminds us of the interconnectedness between place, non-human kin, justice and humanity.
May we see how the struggle for Palestinian liberation is not only a cry for healing legacies of violence and the dismantling of colonial and neo-colonial empires, but is simultaneously the Earth’s cry for justice.
I was recently reading an article about Anton Khalilieh, a Palestinian bird-watcher who expressed how some of the best bird-watching spots in the West Bank are on illegal Israeli settlements, which Palestinians are not allowed access to. Bird watching is largely luxurious and inaccessible due to the ongoing genocide/political climate, lack of funds, time, and access.
To live in a world where systemic disconnection from the Earth…from the ability to witness the birds and listen to their calls, to drink clean water from the rivers, to have a deep knowing and understanding of the ecosystems we are apart of~ this disconnection is a powerful and dominant strategy of empire. The logic behind life-destroying regimes reveal to us how genocide and ecocide are deeply intertwined.
So I sit with the beautiful sunbird as a reminder of how birds defy borders, defy nation-states, defy carceral systems~ free to roam this Earth as was intended for all beings. I’d like to think of birdsong as the songs of liberation. To be in slowness enough to listen, to remember our humanity, to remember that we are part of this Earth, is already an act of resistance.
The silencing of anti-genocide voices will not succeed.

I originally created this piece for the arrival of spring (Spring Equinox/ Ostara) ~ when all life and other beings around me were beginning to emerge, waking up from months of hibernation. I’ve always been drawn to the symbolic essence of eggs and spent some time in various places where rabbits/hares were common sightings. I’ve also been drawn to making Cairns (stacked rocks) ever since I was a child ~ they feel so deeply relevant for the times we are in. Not only have they been used as markers to indicate pathways—but they feel like a visual representation of space, time, change, and the building blocks that are necessary to get there.
While we are now coming into the Summer Solstice, longer days and shorter nights, may we tend to our internal and communal cairns. Similar to seeds that eventually grow, evolve and shape shift into other forms ~ each stone of the cairn must be carefully selected and placed before the other stones can emerge into one whole. As we build movements, coalitions, and community that fight for liberation and resist fascist, neocolonial, technocratic regimes/empire, Mama Earth is always there—leading the way in what she has to teach us. Each stone leads to the next, from one generation to the next. It’s everywhere, all around us ~ and has been since the beginning of time.
